Sent Into Exile

Deportation Sculpture

This sculpture of an Acadian family was commissioned to mark the 250th anniversary of the tragic deportation of thousands of Acadians from their ancestral homeland between 1755 and 1763. The family symbolizes the experiences of the numerous families that were forcibly uprooted from their homes and sent into exile to face an unknown future in foreign lands.

Québec artists Jules LaSalle and André Fournelle created the sculpture, which was unveiled on September 3, 2006.

The sculpture was originally located in the nearby field and then relocated behind the Visitor Centre to provide greater public access.
