Acadia New Music Festival 2010

ACADIA NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010

The concert is held at the Grand-Pré Historic Site on Wednesday, January 20th, at 7:30 pm

The Acadia New Music Society will present the following project as a CMC New Music in New Places sponsored event to take place on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 during Shattering the Silence 2010. The theme of Shattering the Silence 2010 is voice.

10 Associate Composers are writing short 2–5 minute works for New Brunswick singer Helen Pridmore and clarinetist Wesley Ferreira. These works are based on French texts found at the Grand Pré National Historic Site of Canada.

VENUE

The Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada commemorates Grand-Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1763. They have a visitor centre and a church. The visitor centre is conveniently located just past Exit 10 on the way to Wolfville. It has a wide open space inside that would be ideal for holding a concert. The new Visitors Reception and Interpretation Center houses a multimedia theatre, an exhibit hall, a gift shop (closed for the winter), a multipurpose room and administration area along with other visitors' facilities such as restrooms, public phones, etc. The Grand Pré National Historic Site of Canada is a unique site that does not typically hold concerts, and the location is ideal to attract a different audience than a normal concert venue.

REALIZATION

Mark Hopkins, Derek Clarke, and others associated have researched texts to be given to the composer.
