picard04

2:00 p.m. – Guided Tours in English and French on Archaeology at Grand-Pré
During the guided walk of the historic site, visitors will see where the archaeological digs have taken place at Grand-Pré over the past 30 years and will learn a few details regarding the results of the digs.

3:00 p.m. – Annual Reading of the Order of Deportation
To commemorate the deportation of the Acadians from the Grand-Pré region, the annual reading of the Order of Deportation will take place at 3 p.m on September 5. It was on that day and at that time in 1755 that Lt. Col. John Winslow informed the 418 men and boys imprisoned in the church at Grand-Pré that all the Acadians in the region would be deported and that their lands would be confiscated. Over 1,500 Acadians were deported from the Grand-Pré between October 8 and December 13, 1755.

The reading of the Order of Deportation will be followed by the raising of the Acadian flag.
