La Société Promotion Grand-Pré, a
non profit organization representing the Acadian community at large, has
entered into a partnership with Parks Canada in 1997 to offer
interpretive, promotional and marketing services at the Grand-Pré National
Historic Site. This partnership has enabled the construction of a
multi million dollar interpretive visitor centre on the site in
2003 which has greatly enhanced the visitor's
experience.

In 2001, the Société entered into a
partnership with the Northeast Archaeological Research Group to carry out
archaeological digs at the Grand-Pré Historic Site every summer. This
program offers students in the Archaeological Program of St. Mary's
University an opportunity to participate in a summer field school at
Grand-Pré. This initiative has brought to light thousands of artifacts
from the Acadian settlement period and, together, we are developing a "Behind
the Scenes" archaeological program that will be offered to visitors. More
information will be posted as this project moves ahead.
The Société has also made several
other arrangements with funding partners, from both
government and the private sector, to complete various projects such as the mural by Wayne
Boucher that hangs in the main hall, and the bronze sculpture entitled
"Deportation" by the world renowned artists
Jules Lasalle and André Fournelle. The Société continues to work with
these partners, and will create new partnerships to further enhance the
visitor's experience at Grand-Pré in the years ahead.
