New Program for Elementary Schools at Grand-Pré in the Fall:

Bite Into an Apple at Grand-Pré!!!

"Acadians, Orchards and the Old French Willows"

Dear Teachers,

Many Elementary School teachers organize an apple picking excursion in the Annapolis Valley every Fall. Why not include a visit to the Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada while you are in the area? What a wonderful way to start off the day. Your students will visit the orchard on the grounds at Grand-Pré and learn about the importance of the Orchards and the Old French Willows at the time the Acadians lived here (yes! there is a very interesting connection between the two!). Your students will also learn about the first varieties of apples imported into the Annapolis Valley by the Acadians. This new activity is being offered starting in September 2008. Don't miss out on this wonderful learning opportunity for your students!

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES TO DOWNLOAD

The Société Promotion Grand-Pré is offering stimulating activities which will bring Acadian history and culture to life in your classrooms.

As you know, the classroom can be used to promote meaningful cultural learning experiences. The students will learn, appreciate and understand the determination that Acadian culture has demonstrated and still shows in the Twenty-First Century. Places make connections across time that help develop empathetic understanding of what happened and why. We have worked hard to develop activities for students with this in mind. We hope that you will help bring historic places into your classroom.
