An Informal Evening with Jonathan Fowler and Sara Beanland

Jonathan Fowler, a landscape archaeologist, is the Director of the Grand-Pré Archaeological Field School Project, a collaborative research initiative launched in 2001 by Parks Canada, Saint Mary's University, and the Société Promotion Grand-Pré. He is currently a doctoral candidate in archaeology at the University of Oxford. Jonathan will share a few short samples of recent research initiatives, including: recent test excavation results in Annapolis and Hants Counties, archaeological research at the Port Royal Habitation, a preliminary analysis of Winslow's list, the cemetery of St. Charles and the parish registers and new colonial maps from the British archives.

Sara Beanland is currently pursuing graduate work at Saint Mary's University examining the papers of the Rev. Dr. Andrew Brown, a Presbyterian minister who lived in Halifax for eight years beginning in 1787. Dr. Brown completed a draft history of Nova Scotia that included extensive primary research on the Acadians and the Deportation. Sara's research on the Brown manuscripts is the first comprehensive examination of Dr. Brown's work.During the Congrès mondial acadien in 2004, Sara and her family welcomedover 150 members of the Thibodeau family back to their ancestral lands nearWindsor.Local land owners are invited to bring along any artifacts they have found in their gardens or fields for identification.
